I have been in the IT business since I got out of college (40 years ago). Of course then it was DP (Data Processing). Also, I have been with the same employer (IBM) for the entire 40 years. Would I have changed anything? Definitely not. My job has had me living in the US and Canada and travelling on business all over the world.
I started my career as a teacher. Times were different. I wouldn't EVEN CONSIDER it as a career today: low pay, poor working conditions, little respect, political interference, ridiculous and unrealistic standards.
Teaching elementary school. I loved it for 35 years until it became an entirely different entity from the one I enjoyed. I'd NEVER do it now not would I recommend it longterm to a new graduate.
Not sure if you would call it the "workforce", but I began my adult life with thirty years in Christian ministry. Would I do ever go back? Are you kidding me? At the time I left active ministry, I thought I could continue to work in church-related areas; but the situation has since deteriorated into ever crazier foolishness so that I would never go back today. I don't even set foot in a church except for things like funerals.
