Salt Lake City bans upcoming NBC series ‘The New Normal’ because it’s super gay

"One of NBC’s most buzzed-about new Fall comedies has been banned in the Mormon capital of the world Salt Lake City Utah, because it’s super gay. That’s not exactly the official word from NBC affiliate KSL-TV about why they won’t be airingThe New Normal when it premieres Sept. 11 at 9:30 pm ET. But it’s close enough.
After watching the pilot episode, Jeff Simpson, CEO of KSL parent company Bonneville International, said, “For our brand, this program simply feels inappropriate on several dimensions, especially during family viewing time,” adding the show contained “crude dialogue, explicit content and offensive characterizations,” according to Deseret News. Last year, KSL banned NBC’s The Playboy Club.
The New Normal centers around a successful gay couple played by Justin Bartha and Andrew Rannells who hire a young mother Goldie (Georgia King) as their surrogate for their first child. It co-stars Ellen Barkin — she tweeted, “Anyone in Utah interested in @NBCTheNewNormal please clog up @ksl5tv feed 4 their blatantly homophic decision 2 not air the show #KSLBigots” — as well as reality star NeNe Leakes and Bebe Wood, who plays Goldie’s precocious daughter Shania.
Check out the super gay, extended preview for The New Normal below! Warning: it’s so gay you might turn gay if you watch it. So, it’s probably better you bury your head in the sand and ignore the fact that gay people exist and that they’re humans."  (Source)

Surprise surprise, a Mitt Romney Mormon was involved in the banning of the show.

I am gay... out my whole life... not even remotely ashamed... blah blah... but I had very mixed reactions to the first episode of this show. Why does the humour have to be so cheap, mean and at somebody else's expense? I can't believe Ellen Barkin's character made a joke about a person with no arms drinking mushroom soup... WTF?? Ryan's Sue Lynch character WAS funny, but the schtick got old real quick.

In Canada, gay marriage etc. is OLD news and you will all have it soon enough in the U.S. and the rest of the World will someday catch up and have all that we have... the next generation WILL have it all... but culturally speaking this show is just another example of the crass race to the bottom that is American entertainment...

I've watched the first 2 episodes and I've yet to laugh. It's very disappointing that this show is not funny.

It should be banned for being bad... just plain bad...

This blog should be banned because it's lacking an important piece of the puzzle - Salt Lake City viewers will STILL see the show on a small local independent stations, KUCW and KTVX.
