"Local businessman Rick Murray appeared before the board of selectmen and licensing board this week to solicit input and support for an article on the Town Meeting warrant that would allow clubs and bars to stay open until 2 a.m. during the summer. After listening to the mostly supportive reactions, in addition to a couple of individuals voicing concerns, the licensing board voted 5-0 to insert the article on the town warrant.
Those in opposition cited concerns about noise and a potential for increased violence and drunk driving, if people were to race out to Provincetown to catch a last hour of drinking. Those who supported the idea, which would be carried out in a pilot program in summer 2010, thought it would have a positive impact on businesses. Supporters included the Provincetown Chamber of Commerce, the Provincetown Business Guild and town visitor services board, as well as several local business owners." A Dorchester man was found guilty today of murdering a popular hairstylist he met at a gay bar in 2008 and was immediately sent to prison for life without parole. Steven Odegard, 42, stabbed Daniel Yakovleff, 20, over a dozen times with a foot-long chef’s knife, a jury ruled today following six days of deliberations.
Yakovleff’s parents said their son’s good nature was butchered by Odegard.
In a rare turn, Odegard took the stand in his case during this trial and said he “discovered” Yakovleff in his bed with a knife in his chest following a heavy night of boozing. Odegard said they met at the Eagle Bar and another man came home with them. (Continue Reading-Source/Boston Herald)
