"Thousands more people flocked again today to the Kennedy Library, with many coming before dawn to wait in a line two hours long to pay their respects to Senator Edward M. Kennedy. The mourners came from across New England and beyond, shuffling slowly in a line eight-people wide that snaked back and forth through the parking lot of the Dorchester center. A dozen Boy Scouts helped pass out water to the waiting crowd and offered the elderly a steady arm or help with wheelchairs.
By mid-day, the crowd stretched more than a quarter of a mile, and those waiting expressed relief that the viewing had been extended by at least three hours, to 3 p.m.
The crowds, and a recent leg injury, did not deter Eddie Feeney, 50, who waited well over an hour to pay his respects and who hobbled up on crutches to sign the condolence book. Fenney, originally from Belfast, credited Kennedy with helping to quell the sectarian violence in Northern Ireland that had claimed the lives of Fenney's friends.
